WHAT IS A FOSTER HOME?
A foster home is a temporary living situation for dogs in our program while they are preparing for adoption. Foster families provide shelter, food (provided by Luna Farms Rescue), and all necessary care to ensure the dog is healthy and ready for their forever home. In return, you’ll get more puppy and kitten cuddles and love than you can handle.
The more people that open their homes and hearts to fosters, the more dogs and cats we can save.
WHY FOSTER?
Being a foster changes two lives: yours and the animals. . It’s a chance to have a companion animal without a lifetime commitment, or to try new companions for an existing pet. For others, it’s the challenge of helping a dog recover from an illness or injury, the trauma of losing a beloved owner or home, or to overcome a behavioral issue. Providing the care and love a dog and cat needs to transition from homelessness to a forever home is rewarding beyond measure. Best of all? Your heart and home are filled with love.
HOW LONG CAN I EXPECT TO FOSTER?
The length of time an animal stays in our foster program depends on their age, health, and how quickly they can be adopted or transported. Some of our dogs will need more time because of age, illness, injury, or behavior issues, while others can be ready for adoption in a few weeks.
Keep in mind, there is no way to accurately predict a dog’s behavior or health, so the length of time depends on the specific dog and situation. If the length of time required is not a fit for your family, Luna Farms Rescue will work to find an alternate foster home.
WHAT ARE THE RESPONSIBILITIES OF A FOSTER?
Provide a safe, clean, caring environment
Provide enrichment and shelter
Provide exercise, socialization, and training as appropriate
Monitor medical and/or behavioral needs
Transport to/from all necessary vet appointments
Transport to/from adoption events or photo shoots
Update the Luna Farms Adoption Team with progress
Take quality photos and videos to be used for social media and the adoption video
Write a detailed adoption bio outlining the requirements in a forever home/family
